An informational meeting on the proposed Recreation Center was held <br />on Nov. 16, 1977 at 7:00 P.M. in the American Legion Hall. <br /> <br />Present: Tr. O'Rourke, Tr. Dolan, Tx. Lawrence and Tr. Schinell&. <br /> <br />Tr. Schinella reported meetings have been held with the youth of the <br />community and it was desire to have a year round program. <br />He stated, as it stands now~ the Recreation Commission /~mm~mi~-i-~H <br />conducts a summer pro<3ram, and expanded program would include <br />weight lifting~ boxing, gymnastics and camping. <br />Tr. Schinella reported a campsite, with facilities, has been offered <br />the Village &t no cost. <br /> <br />Tr. Schinella reported they have been searching for a facility and the <br />third floor of the old Sweet-Orr bld9. has been offered the Village <br />free of charge, except for maintenance. <br />He stated all Board's and Inspectors have reviewed this proposed <br />location and same has received clearance. <br />Tr. Schinella reported he contacted D.C. Youth Board in reference to <br />an instructor and fee would be $1500. <br />He stated they contacted the YMCA and they do conduct a Youth Recreatfon <br />program on a County wide basis and have 3 areas picked out. <br /> <br />Tr. Schinella reported they approached the Community Services Prooram <br />on Givans Ave. and they may have floor space but same was strictly in <br />the planning stage. <br />He reported community was lacklng programs for youths ranging in age <br />from ~2 to ZO and program would be r6n by the participants {hemselves. <br /> <br />Tr. O'Rourke inquired as to condition of the sprinkler system and Tr. <br />$chinella replied it needed repair but bldg. had 4 fire escapes <br />and 2 adjacent roofs. <br /> <br />Tr. O'Rourke inquired as to a lease and Tr. Schinella replied same <br />hasn't been negotiated as yet. <br /> <br />It was inquired if program would be limited to Village people and <br />Tr. Schlnella reported Village couldn't financially run a program <br />and if funded monies are used, program must be open to everyone. <br /> <br />Tr. Lawrence inquired as to funding for heat, lights add insurance <br />and Tr. $chinella reported same would be handled through matching <br />recreation funds. He stated basic expenses would be heat and lights. <br /> <br />T~. Lawrence reported program was basically set up for boys and Tr. <br />Schlnella reported basic programs was just a start and other programs <br />could be initiated. <br /> <br />Tr. Lawrence inquired if dances would be conducted and Tr. Schinella <br />replied no, <br /> <br /> <br />
