Public Hearing on proposed Dog Ordinance was held on ~Jednesday, Sept. bs 1972 <br />at 7:00 i~.M. in the Mesier Homestead, <br /> <br />Those present: Mayor Furnari, Tr. DiDomizio~ Tr. Oolan, Tr. Bains Tr. Synnetts <br />Ir. Sullivan, Tr. Hoolihan and Atty. Lyons. <br /> <br />Atty. Lyons read legal notice as it appeared in the Wo & ~.D. News on <br />Aug. 24~ 1972e <br /> <br />At,y. Lyons discussed text of proposed ordinance, <br /> <br />He stated sa~e differs from existing ordinal~ce prisarily in that dogs must <br />be restrained. <br /> <br />Mr. William Nepfel, 78 Remsen A~e., inquired as to dogs being tied and getting <br />loose. <br /> <br />Atty. Lyons replied dogs must be restrained and party would have to explain <br />actions to the Judge. <br /> <br />Mr,'Nepfel reported proposed ordinance was unfair to people who own dogs and <br />stated he never saw 35 dogs near Gilmore 81vd, <br /> <br />Mrs. Alice Johnson, 2 Gilmore Blvd., reported she has a dog and has nothing <br />against dogs, She ~tated she was against dogs eessing on children and peop&e <br />being subject to abuse, <br />Mrs~ Johnson reported dogs ~hould have proper care, <br /> <br />Rosemary Lo.f~in, b2 Mesler Ave.~ reported she was opposed to leash law. <br />She stated she has two dogs and both are fence in. She reported her dogs <br />are out about an hour a day and resents anyone telling her to keep <br />tied. <br />Mrs. Laffin stated many eid~.rly people have dogs and it w~uld be difficult <br />for t~em to take dogs our on a leash, <br />She reported ~evious ordinance hasn't been enforced and proposed ordinaries <br />which is stricter~ wouldn't be enforced either. <br /> <br />Alice ~alente~ 17 W. Academy St.~ reported she doesn't own a dog but was <br />pleading for the ~reedo~ o~ dogs. <br /> <br />Darlene R~snss 15 Gilmore Blvd.s reported she was in ~avor o~ a leash law <br />as she has had 2 small children physically abused. She stated it wasn't <br />riqht to protect irresponsible dog owners. <br />Mrs. ~vaos reported she owned a small home and was opposed to dogs messing <br />on her property. She stated dog was kil]ed on street 2 days ago &lid one <br />neighbor has 11 dogs. <br /> <br />· r. Sullivan reported problem with ordinance was enforcement as there were <br />no ares to house dogs. <br /> <br /> <br />
