IVI~CUTES OF PLANNING BOARD -2-

5/5/05

like to make permanent to advertise specials he has periodically. At the present time the
rules for temporary signs are that you are allowed to have a temporary sign for 14 days -
renewable for 14 additional days with the permission from the Code Enforcement Officer
and applicant cannot reapply for six months. Applicant stated that Verizon required the
sign that is attached to the building to be 65% - 35% - this means that 65% of the signage
can be the name of the applicant and 35% must be Verizon's name - this has effected
their business by about 40% in sales - but they have no objection to the banners
advertising Verizon because it is not on the building. The banners is something
applicants can do to recoup their losses. Mr. Morris stated that the Planning Board
cannot deviate from the Zoning Ordinance - the ZBA is the only Board that can vary
from the Ordinance. Applicant would have to apply to the ZBA for a variance - then the
Planning Board abides by their decision. Mr. Morris stated that the Board would have to
see a proposal for what the new signage would look tike and also a letter from the owner
of the plaza stating that applicant had their permission to use road sign but others in the
plaza did not. Mr. Morris stated applicant would have to gee a temporary sign permit
from the Code Enforcement Officer- for the banner and meanwhile applicant apply to
the ZBA to make banner permanent, Applicant asked Board if they would consider
allowing him to make banner permanent and Mr. Morris stated a permanent banner
would not be the type of signs that the Planning Board would approve but applicant could
work up a proposal for a new sign on the pylon.

NEIGItBOI~d~OOID DAY CARE. 9 l'vrll,L STREET
Next on the agenda was the application of Neighborhood Day Care for two signs for the
building at 9 Mill Streee, Applicant presented color swatches for the Board. She went on to state that the house was a single family house but had a variance
to make it into a two family house - the variance lapsed because second apartment was
unoccupied for more than 18 months. She stated that they do not expect clients to visit
the offices as they will usually visit them at their offices. They both expect to work from
their respective homes. It will be a professional home office - with parking in the
driveway and also on the street. There will be no sign for the business on the house.
