<br /> <br />Minutes following the 3/26/2008 Public Hearings and Village Board <br />Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />PA: <br />LEDGE OF LLEGIANCE <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL STUDY / <br />GRANT. <br /> <br />Mayor Alexander opened the public hearing at 6 PM. The Mayor explained the reason for <br />the public hearing and spent about 20 minutes explaining the purpose of the SRTS “ Safe <br />Routes to School Grant”. An application has been prepared and the funds solicited <br />through the SRTS 2008 Grant Program. The funds will be used to create 6 crosswalks <br />over 9D with proper signage and a traffic signal at Mill and Market and 9D. The Village <br />will engineer, educate, encourage, enforce and evaluate pedestrian safety. As part of this <br />meeting the Board of Trustees will vote to authorize the Mayor to proceed with the grant <br />application. Mayor Alexander asked if there were any questions. Hearing closed at 7:20 <br />PM. <br /> <br /> <br />PA: <br />LEDGE OF LLEGIANCE <br /> <br /> PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING PROPOSED VERIZON CABLE FRANCHISE <br />AGREEMENT <br /> <br />Mayor Alexander opened the public hearing at 7: PM saying the public hearing tonight is <br />to hear about Verizon’s proposed cable television franchise in the village of Wappingers <br />Falls. The Mayor also said the hearing should be kept to about one hour. The Clerk <br />verified that a notice had been published in the Poughkeepsie Journal. Attorney Horan <br />said that Verizon would need to obtain permission from the Village Board prior to <br />delivering service. Attorney Horan asked if a representative from Verizon would like to <br />speak. Mr. John F. Butler, Director of Verizon External Affairs addressed the Board and <br />public. Mr. Butler said the Town of Wappingers passed the video franchise on March <br />24th and the Village of Wappingers Falls is now positioned to be the second in Dutchess <br />County to approve. Mr. Butler provided some statistics with respect to the Verizon work <br />force residing in the community. The new video franchise manager is Darian Gill. Mr. <br />Butler thanked Mayor Alexander and Village Clerk Karge for their assistance in getting <br />the agreement to where it is today. Several people spoke in support of the agreement <br />mostly employees of Verizon. Mr. Stormo said the words “ Level Playing Field” will <br />most likely be addressed by Cablevision when they have an opportunity to speak. Next <br />Mr. Stormo turned the meeting over to Mr. Parr also of Verizon who asked Mr. Connor <br />of Cablevision to comment. Mr. Connor did say he would address “ Level Playing Field” <br />and that was exactly why he was there. Mr. Connor did make several comments about the <br />proposed agreement which he said could and most likely would be worked out between <br />Verizon Officials, Attorney Horan and Cablevision. Several more Verizon employees <br />commented in support of the agreement. Mr. Fulton ( Village resident) asked about the <br />service and was told this new product is very reliable and the new service manager Mr. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br />
