A public hearing on the proposed 1992-1993 Village Budget w~s held on Wednesday, <br />April 15th, 1992 at 7:00 P.M. at the Village Hall. <br /> <br />Members Present: <br />Mayor Hinzmann, Tr. DiDcmizio, Tr. Napoleon, Tr. Shay, Tr. Bain, Tr. Usavich <br /> <br />Menber s Absent: <br />Tr. Kcmornik <br /> <br />Others Present: <br />Fire Chief, Tim Laffin; Deputy Chief, Stephen Paino; George Traver; Police <br />Ounmissioner Doug Terwilliger <br /> <br />Mayor Hin~m~un stated that this was a public hearing on the proposed budget of the <br />Village of Wappingers Falls. They have a proposed rate of $105.00 per 1,000 assessed <br />evaluation. <br /> <br />Fire Chief Laffin stated tb~t he feels that with his proposed budget it would be <br />in]possible to run a fire dept., for tb~ safety of th~ fire fighters and the residents <br />of the Village. It would also be impossible to ~ct the State and Federal regulations. <br /> <br />Mayor Hin~nann stated that in the salary line they are trying to hold the lir~. <br /> <br />Chief Laffin stated that their proposed raise w~s only an additional $5.00 <br />more a month; plus adding an engineer or an assistant engineer to the new ladder. <br /> <br />Tr. Shay asked why they would need another enginccr. <br /> <br />Chief Laffin responded that the truck is under warranty and every 10 hours the <br />truck has to go through a checklist. Tb~ engineers are responsible for the maintenance <br />and cleanliness and to make sure the truck is ready. <br /> <br />There was some discussion on the maintenance of the trucks. <br /> <br />Tr. Bain stated that he doesn't think they cc~prcmised any safety in this budget. <br /> <br />There was scme discussion on training for the firemen and what is re~red. <br /> <br />Tr. Usavich suggested that Chief Laffin get a specific list stating the courses <br />they are interested in, the exact cost per man, and how many men plan on going to <br />them so they have scmething to actually look at. <br /> <br />There was a discussion on the equipment with regards to outdated equi~-nt and <br />repairs. <br /> <br />Tr. Usavich suggested that they make a list"of equi~x~ent and out of that list how <br />many are working and how many are defective. They should have a cc~lete, itemized <br />inventory of what is in the firehouses. <br /> <br />Chief Laffin stated that he would make a list and have it back to the Board by the <br />next .~cting. <br /> <br />George Traver suggested that there be monthly ~c.~-~ngs with the Fire C~aLBL'~t~ <br />a~d the Fire Departments. Right now there is no c~,,,unication. <br /> <br />Tr. Napoleon stated that when he was ChaiIman of the Fire Cc~ttee they met <br />every month and he asked for monthly reports. <br /> <br /> <br />
