Kieffer stated on Page 4 of the minutes, first
whole
paragraph it should read “….Her mother in law is 87 years old and has lived there her life
and….” Mr. McCormick made a motion to approve the minutes from the December 3, 2015
meeting as amended, seconded by Mr. Moran. On roll call vote – Mr. Morris – Aye, Mr.
McCormick – Aye, Mr. Moran – Aye, Mr. Kocan – Aye, Mr. Relyea – Abstain and Ms. Kieffer
– Abstain (Both were absent from the December meeting).

DUTCHESS SHOPPING PLAZA, ROAD SIGNS, 1582 ROUTE 9
First on the agenda was the proposal from Davis Fowler Group with two new road signs at
Dutchess Shopping Plaza, 1582 Route 9. Mr. Tom Walsh from Sign Language and Mr. Frank
Buyakowski owner of the plaza were present. Applicant presented the signs to the Board and
also submitted an amended map to the Board showing the signs. Mr. Morris asked about
landscaping and Mr. Buyakowski stated whatever is on the plan is what they are proposing. The
submission marked “Freestanding Sign North End” was discussed first. Mr. Morris asked what
the height of the proposed sign was in comparison to the existing sign and Mr. Walsh stated the
existing sign is just over 20 ft. and the proposed sign is 17.4 ft. Ms. Kieffer stated she felt the
sign was too busy – too many different colors. She feels a simple sign that just identifies the
plaza with signs on the building would be more appealing. Mr. Moran agreed with Ms. Kieffer.
Mr. Relyea stated he feels it is an improvement to what is there now. Mr. Kocan stated that the
building is too close to the road to have such a busy road sign. Mr. Morris stated that the sign
cannot be more than 20 ft. in front of the building and if you cannot see the building then the
sign is not going to help you find the businesses. All the businesses identified on the sign have
road frontage. There are other examples of signs similar to this (Imperial Plaza) but the
businesses identified on that sign are not visible to Route 9. Applicant stated that the point of a
road sign is for the safety of motorists so they won’t get distracted looking for a particular thing.
