Public Hearing held Friday, March ~,1983 at 7:00p.m. <br />at the Village Offices in the American Legion Building on <br />Spring Street. <br /> Present: Mayor Sy~ett~ Trustees Carey, Cioppa, ~nd <br />Greco, and Attorney Lyons. (Deputy Mayor,~stee Costa <br />was in the hospital; Trustee Mazochi required to work with <br />WCSD on implementing split-session.) <br /> <br />Mayor Sy,,~ett opened the public'hearing ~d invited public <br />comment on suggestions for projects to be conaidered for the <br />Community Develppment Block Grant Program.' <br /> <br />Attorney Lyons explained that the purpose of the hearing was <br />to elicit comments from the public to aid in the identification <br />and selection of projects, and to obtain the views of the resi- <br />dents on the community development and housing needs of the <br />Village. <br /> <br />Mayor Synnett,observed that there were no representatives of <br />the media present. He further stated that the Village had <br />been trying to obtain funds under various grant programs for <br />several years, but heretofore had not been found eligible; <br />but that with the Comuty Consortium the Village was now eli- <br />gible for between $25,000 to $100,000. Some of the projects <br />suggested included rehabilitation Of the downtown central <br />business district in reference to the derelict buildings on <br />West Main Street, and the creation of a park on Village land <br />at 2~-26 West Main Street. <br /> <br />Charlotte Rosewhite of Givens Avenue stated that it was a <br />good idea to address the delapidated buildings on West Main <br />.Street because left,in their present condition someone will <br />be hurt. She also noted that the sidewalks need repair. <br /> <br />Mayor S~'~nett explained that the sidewalks are scheduled to <br />be taken care of as part of the State 9D project this spring. <br /> <br />Charles Rosewhlte of Givens Avenue inquired as to the granite <br />blocks formerly at the bottom of Main Street hill <br /> <br />Mayor Sy~ett said that that area would be part of the State <br />construction project. <br /> <br />Trustee Cioppa presented a number of letters from the Wappingers <br />Falls Visual Environmental Committee, the Dutchess Co-nty Board <br />of Realtors, the Wappingers Falls 0hamber of Commerce, and <br />several area businessmen in support of a plan to demolish the <br />burnt-out buildings on West Main Street both as it would improve <br />the business district and e~ate what is viewed as a hazard- <br />ous condition. <br /> <br />Robert Bascher, representing the Zion Episcopal:Church stated <br />that a number of parishioners were interested in participating <br />in a Droject to rehabilitate the former Sweet-Orr building on <br />Mill ~treet and establish a senior citizens' building. <br /> <br /> <br />
