The regular meeting of the ~4ayor and Village Board of Trustees was held! <br />on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998 at 7:30 P.M. in the Village Hall. <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Belding, Tr. D~zio, Tr. Lawrence, Tr. Hemingway, Tr. Goebel, <br />and Atty. Viglotti, <br /> <br />Absent: Trustees Cerino and ~larshall. <br /> <br />David J. Burns, Barbara Kendall, Ed Hcxsie and Wayne Th~pson, members of the <br />Wappingers Creek Watershed, addressed Board relative the Wappingers Creek Water <br />Shed. <br /> <br /> Ms. Kendall stated they were planning a Warershed conference, and need represent- <br /> atives from the Village Board to serve on cc~mittee/and .participate in the Wapp- <br />ingers Creek Watershed Planning process. <br /> <br />She presented a Slides which outlined many areas which were of interest to the <br />Village, sc~e of which are: <br /> <br />100% of the Village is in the Wappingers Creek Watershed. <br /> <br />Pollutants released into the Creek at Red Oaks Mills reach the Village in about <br />5 hrs. <br /> <br /> The Village is rich in water resources. <br /> <br /> Activities on the land can effect both surface and groundwater. <br /> 1 gal. of gasoline can contaminate 5 mil lion gallons of water. <br /> Silt from the lake may be cc~ing frcm towns north of the lake. <br /> <br /> Nitrates frc~ septic systems influence our wells and were causing swimming <br /> areas along the lake and creek to close. <br /> <br /> Due to increased popu_, lation, the Village has a growing water demand as the <br /> average person uses about 88 gals. of water per day. <br /> <br />There is a ground water aquifer underlying the full length of the Wappingers <br /> Creek and into the lake. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Kendall said to solve these probl~s, we need to work together and there <br /> were various projects under way. <br /> She said the Village Board working with the committee will ensure Village's <br /> needs are addressed by the Watershed conference this Fall. <br /> <br /> Trustees Lawrence and Goebel volunteered to serve on the Watershed C~tfttee. <br /> Mayor Belding thanked Ms. Kendall for her presentation. <br /> <br /> <br />
