The regular meeting of the Village Board of Trustees was held on Wednesdayi <br />June 12, 1968 at 7:30 P.M. in the Mesier Homestead. <br /> <br />Those'present: Acting Mayor Bain, Tr. DiDomizio, Tr. A. Napoleon, Tr. Friesi <br />Tr. D,O. Napoleon, Tr. Cheetham, Mayor Furnari & Atty. Lyons. <br /> <br /> Acting Mayor Bain asked everyone present to stand in a moment of silent prayer <br />· in memory of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy. <br /> <br />Motion by Tr. Fries, seconded by Tr. DiDomizio that the regular order of-business <br />be dispensed with. Carried. <br /> <br />Mr. Raymond Chase, Recreation Chairman, addressed meeting~ reporting on comm- <br />ittees' findlngs concerning a new location for the Belly of the Whale. <br />He reported 15 locations were investigated and it was recommended the Academy <br />Theater be chosen. He stated reason was based on:-l, the decision to continue <br />the Belly of the Whale as 20,000 young adults have participated in program <br />over the last two years at no cost to the Village. 2. Moral leaders are backed <br />by the Clergy. ~. Forty percent of Village youth are in attendance in any one <br />night. 4. A sub-committee has been apDointed to study the rules of the Belly of <br />the Whale and will report its findings to the Village Board. <br /> <br />Mr. Chase reported Belly of the Whale is a non profit organization and they <br />do have control over members with the use of a card form and a hand stamp for <br />persons going in and out. He reported once-a person goes,out he stays out. <br /> <br />Mr. Chase stated a long range plan is being contemplated for a Youth Center in <br />Southern Dutchess area and plan will be submitted to the County Bd. of Rep- <br />resentatives.'He reported the Academy location maybe suitable for other uses <br />such as senior citizens night, local dances and meetings of the Village. <br />Mr. Chase stated it was up to the Village Bd. to carry out the future of this <br />wo~thwhile program. <br /> <br />Mr. Cianchetti, resident of W. Main St., voiced opposition on the above recomm- <br />endation, stating building was run down and dangerous traffic conditions would <br />exist due to narrowness of street and flow of traffic. He recommended reconsider- <br />ing another area with less traffic and stated consideration should be given <br />the taxpayers and not the teenagers. He discussed dangerous conditions which <br />would prevail~ should the Belly of t he Whale be allowed to use the Academy. <br /> <br />Hr. Chase discussed the need for this project, due to the number of teenagers <br />and reported trail ic wouldn't be too much a problem as most members~ between <br />the ages of 14 and 18 would be dropped off andpicked up by-their parents. <br />He reported building is soundproof and-rules are being drawn up for this temp- <br />orary location should approval be given. <br /> <br />Tr. Fries inquired as to possibility of using one of the schools and Mr. Chase <br />replied Supt.-~egan doesn't want to take on the Belly of the Whale as certain <br />dances have been scheduled for the eeason. <br /> <br />Mr. Cinelli, resident of W. Main St., i~quired if the Grange Hall had been ' <br />considered and ~lr. Chase replied yes, but it'was too small. <br /> <br /> <br />
