Unanimously carried

JAY W~.IS;~g FOR PROPOY;ED VETERINARIAN OFFICE AT 76 EAST MAIN ST.
Mr. Weiss stated he has been a veterinarian since 1982. He has been practicing in the
New Hackensack Plaza since 1982. He stated the present condition of the plaza is his
reuson for wanting to leave. The zoning of the building is office business and there is no
claxsi, fication in the OB zone or anywhere else in the V~TIage for a veterinarian office.
He stoted the main concerns of his practice is noise, odor and appearance. As far as
noise goes, an animal hospital is not a kennel. A hospitalized animal is typically sick A
dog that is sick rarely makes a sound. They are typically on intravenous. There is a
tremendous amount of difference between a dog being sick in an animal hospital and a
dog running around in a kennel. The only type of animals he is talking about are
domestic animals. When it comes to odor any animal hospital is a professional office.
The surgery that is done in an animal hospital is the same that is done in a regular
hospital as far as the same anesthetics and same precautions for sterility. The greatest
odor anyone would smell wouM be the medicinal odors (antiseptics, chlorine, etc.)
Finally in terms of appearance an animal hospital is a professional office and people will
get the impression that if the hospital does not look good (messy, dirty) then the people
there that are practicing are probably incapable. An animal hospital versus a kennel -
there is a terrific difference. ]n terms of an animal hospital being appropriate in office
business, there is no other designation that would include an animal hospital. Other
issues include lighting, parking, and traffic. The amount of traffic that would be caused
by the vet office would be less than any other business establishment. He sees his
patients I every half-hour. Therefore there would not be a great deal of traffic.
