A Public Hearing was held Wednesday, May 9th~ 19~0 in the Village <br />Hall, Village of Wappingers Fails, New York. <br /> <br />The Public Hearing was on the proposed adoption of a contract with <br />the Sloper Willen Ambulance Service to provide 24 hour service for <br />village residents. <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Hemingway, Trustees Buckley, Kolb~ Costello, <br />Napoleon, Bovino and Attorney Viglotti. <br /> <br />Absent: Trustee Fisch was absent due to business obligations. <br /> <br />Also present: Police Commissioner Terwilliger, Recreation Director <br />Cindy Latino, Fire Chief Pat Lyons, Fire Assistant Tom Burke and <br />Water Commissioner Donald Mazochi. <br />Randy Chepke of Pok. Journal and Susan Mahoney of Eastbank News. <br /> <br />Many Village residents were also present. <br /> <br />The Public Hearing came to order at ?:15 PM followed by the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br /> <br />Mayor Hemingway asked for a moment of silence for Pat DiDomizio~ the <br />deceased brother of Trustee Jenny Bovino. <br /> <br />Mayor Hemingway e~plained the proposed contract stating that there is <br />an item in the adopted May Budget for the amount of $15~725 dollars <br />which averages approximately $10.00 per household in the Village to <br />cover the amount. The expenditure assures the residents that they <br />would not have to pay for ambulance service. <br /> <br />The person who uses the service would receive a bill from Sloper <br />Willen. The Bill would be submitted to the residents Insurance <br />and any amount not covered by the insurance would be covered by the <br />contract. If the resident is not insured~ the total bill would be <br />paid. <br /> <br />Attorney Viglotti stated that according to General Municipal Law, the <br />proposal cannot be voted on without a response from both fire <br />companies giving their consent when the supplier of the ambulance <br />care is outside of the district. <br /> <br />Village resident Jean Laffin felt that the proposal is a good idea. <br />Jean commented that insurance is very expensive. <br /> <br />Mr. Jack Kernochan would like the fee for service stated in the <br />contract. His concern was that the fee would increase once a contract <br />commitment was made. Mr. Kernochan would like assurance that "we are <br />paying part of the burden and not fattening purses." <br /> <br />Mr. Harry Greco questioned the Sloper Willen quote of $68,000 <br />dollars. <br />Mayor Hemingway explained that this quote included total support~ 24 <br />hour coverage, Village stand-by and no generation of bills for <br />service.
