PUBLIC HEARING at 7:00 P.M. to discuss Tentative Budget $3,981,653.00
Clerk stated Legal Notice is hereby given that the Tentative Budget for the Village of Wappingers
Falls, Dutchess County, New York for the fiscal year 2,007-2,008 has been completed. It is filed with
the Village Clerk of said Village, 2628 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY. He stated the budget can
be inspected by any interested person during the regular hours of the business day from the date of
publication of this notice to the date of public hearing on the budget. He then stated the Board of
Trustees of the Village of Wappingers Falls will conduct a public hearing at the American Legion Hall,
7 Spring St., Wappingers Falls, NY on the 11 of April 2007 at 7:00 P.M. to review said budget and
th
any person may be heard in favor of or against on any item there in contained. In summary the total
appropriations for the fiscal year 2007-2008 are $3,981, 653.00. Pursuant to Village Law, Section 5-
509 Notice is further given that the compensation to be paid to the Mayor and each member of the
Board of Trustees as follows: Mayor, $9,600; Trustees, $6,000. Clerk then stated the hearing is now
open.
Tr. Cerino stated he would make a comment for the public. This is the tentative budget that was
submitted by all the Department Heads and it is an increase from last year's budget. If no changes were
made in the budget, that is not likely, they have already had budget meetings, but if you took this
budget and didn't make a change, it represents 19% increase in taxes which on the face of it is probably
the best tentative budget that has ever come before the Village Board because they always are 32% to
45% because everyone submits their wish list. He can tell you that they started the budget process last
week and the Finance Committee and the Mayor held a few meetings and then they had the Board with
them and they have already worked on the budget and it's fair to say it is a shade of 9% right now, with
more work to be done. He thinks there is a commitment from the Board that they want to see a budget
that is fair and reasonable but they believe they can get this somewhere under 6%. They might have a
little disagreement amongst some of the members who may want it at 3 and some who want it around 5
but he thinks that's a healthy attitude because it shows that the Board members will work to see what is
more important to them. He can tell you now they're a shade under 9% from the original 19% increase
and they're working for under six.
Mayor Alexander stated there are copies of the budget for anybody.
Former Mayor Lawrence asked if the Police Assistants were back on the budget and the Mayor replied
they are in the budget.
Mayor Alexander stated they would be announcing later, at the end of the meeting they will be setting
more dates for more budget meetings so that you can come and attend. They did have some people
attend the meetings this past week at the Village Hall. They will be doing that again tonight. He asked
if there were any other questions.
Former Mayor Lawrence asked in the 3 unions, the salaries that you pay them, they have a contract. So
this is done systematically and Mayor replied that is right. Former Mayor Lawrence stated other than
the Police contract that's the only thing that you have outstanding. Is that right? Mayor Alexander
replied that is correct.
Clerk said if there is no further discussion, could he have a motion to close the public hearing?
Motion by Tr. Marshall, seconded by Tr. Italiano to close the public hearing. All in favor. Carried.
Public Hearing on tentative budget closed at 7:07 P.M.
Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Village Board of Trustees was held on Wednesday, April 11, 2007
in the American Legion Hall, 7 Spring Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.
