What the applicants would do is to take
down the three existing signs on property and erect one 17 fi. high, 5 fi. wide Sunoco
sign. This would not include the "Thornton's" sign on building. It was stated that the
sign could not be any higher than the height of the building. It would be the exact same
sign as the Sunoco station at the intersection of Route 9 and 184 - except for the height.
Applicant stated they would be landscaping around the sign with shrubbery/flowers and
railroad ties. Mr. Alfonso stated he would like to see it cleaned up (taking down the
three signs and just having one sign) and the lighting would be the same that is there now
- internally lit. Mr. Alexander asked if there could be some type of roof over the sign
with down lights on the sign and applicant stated that is something that has never been
done with Sunoco. Mr. Morris asked applicant how this sign lines up
with the proposed Planet Wings sign and Mr. Petrizzo stated they are staggered with a
distance of at least 60 feet. It was stated that the sign would not be lit and if in the future
the applicants wanted to light it they understood that they would have to make an
appearance at the Planning Board for approval.
